Mountain Coaster

This week’s segment is one that I found completely by accident and one on which I currently have the fourth fastest time. It’s the Mountain Coaster segment in McHenry, Maryland.

There’s no KOM on this one because it is a downhill segment. In fact it drops 345 feet in .4 miles. That’s because it is the route of the mountain coaster, a gravity-powered roller coaster at the ski resort. I turned on my Garmin just to see how fast my son and I were going when we rode it and was surprised when I had a Strava notification on my phone a few minutes later. I’m sure my fourth place is secure until the spring because the coaster is closed, but I expect to be at least fifth soon because my buddy Nathan, the great white hunter of Strava segments, spends a lot of time at Deep Creek Lake.
